~Existential crisis #4972469~ Should I continue with my law degree?
Pros:
- It’s highly esteemed: srsly the look on people’s faces when I tell them I’m a law student is priceless. Never mind that my arts subjects are just as hard and require more contact hours and research. I work a shitty job and get shitty uni marks as I don’t care about uni marks, so telling my family/the world I’m a law student somehow makes me feel like I’m not a complete waste of space.
- It’ll look awesome on my resume: I have some dream that I’ll be going for an awesome job is whatever field and they’ll read my resume and be all “YOU’VE GOT A LAW DEGREE, YOU’RE NOT COMPLETELY REDUNDANT” and hire me because of that. Basically to give me a boost in job searching. I don’t intend to qualify for the bar. Fuck that. But that one time my law degree gets me a leg up will be worth it?
- It’s sorta handy: I know a lot of useless stuff about contract formations and police search powers. That’s sorta cool.
- It’s a professional degree: I know if shit gets rough for me in my future, I could always qualify for the bar and attempt to make a living by it. Education is important.
- It’s a corporate job: I’m more creatively inclined, but there are only a few seldom ways to actually make a living creatively, and you have to be awesomely good at it to do so. I don’t have that much faith in my own creativity. Thus a boring corporate job seems right up my alley.
Cons:
- I know I’d make a shit lawyer/be Lionel Hutz: Hahahahahah, me a lawyer, ahahahahahaha.
- Law sucks the creativity out of me
- I don’t find it stimulating in the same way I do English Lit or art
- I don’t intend to pass the bar, so why the fuck am I getting the fucking degree
